- Provide residents with services that enhance sleep quality, incorporating cutting-edge sleep analysis algorithms.

- Offer opportunities to try sustainable food ingredients—such as cultivated meat developed at the University of Tokyo—at cafeterias for office workers and other facilities.

Partner Companies and Organizations

East Japan Railway Company (JR East)
East Japan Railway Company (JR East) and the University of Tokyo have concluded a 100-year industry–academia co-creation agreement to foster Planetary Health and realize a fulfilling lifestyle 100 years from now. Together, they have launched the co-creation project Planetary Health Design Laboratory (commonly known as the PHD Lab. Project). Leveraging JR East Group’s infrastructure—such as stations and railways, including TAKANAWA GATEWAY CITY—as a living laboratory, the University of Tokyo is putting its diverse and cutting-edge knowledge into practice to create the lifestyles of the future and address global-scale social challenges.

Maruha Nichiro Corporation
Maruha Nichiro Corporation and the University of Tokyo, a National University Corporation, signed a basic agreement on May 31, 2024, with the aim of collaborating and cooperating in creating a future for the ocean and life. The company also participates as a partner in the Planetary Health Design Laboratory, a collaborative project between JR East and the University of Tokyo, working to realize a fulfilling lifestyle and benefits for the Earth 100 years from now through the “Planetary Health Diet,” a food system that is friendly to both people and the planet.

A collaborative platform between the University of Tokyo and the Institut Pasteur
The University of Tokyo, a National University Corporation, signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with the Institut Pasteur on October 3, 2023, to promote collaboration and cooperation. Under the umbrella of the Japan Pasteur Institute (Institut Pasteur du Japon, IPJ), Phic was established as a platform for joint activities between the University of Tokyo and the Institut Pasteur. Phic engages in a wide range of fields, including planetary health and life sciences, undertaking research support, innovation consulting, and the promotion of entrepreneurship. It also advances collaboration with industry, functioning as a hub that enables seamless interaction between academia and the business sector.
